Fagunwa.Fagunwa is undoubtedly one of the pioneers of African literature in indigenous languages. His novels have contributed immensely to giving visibility and relevance to Yoruba culture across the globe. Through its well-researched chapter contributions, this book shows clearly that Fagunwa’s literary works exhibit depth on a wide range of philosophical, ideological, cultural, and scientific issues, thus, encouraging a better understanding of African people and the African world.From the introductory to the last chapter, the richness of thought and linguistic felicity evident in Fagunwa’s novels is illumined. The elegance of the use of language is underscored by the way proverbs, idioms and witticisms are deployed in the narratives. He further espouses the depth of Yoruba cosmology as well as the relationship between man and nature in addition to the encounters of Yoruba people with aspects of modernity such as science, technology, and education.The contributors offer insights into Fagunwa’s understanding of the role of women in the society and the necessity to teach moral lessons to youths as a way of purifying the community and inspiring the youths to imbibe the spirit of heroism and adventure as it is done by prominent characters in Fagunwa’s novels.
